The Dog & Handler Training Club

Established  2007

Rewards – We are a reward based training club. We teach you how to use a combination of treats, toys, touch and praise – so your dog learns in a calm, relaxed, kind and positive way.

The Dog & Handler Training Club

The Dog and Handler Training Club was formed in 2007 solely as teaching the Kennel Club Good Citizen scheme. However over the years  it has now grown to include many other activities including Agility and Hoopers.

Since moving venue to Luddington Farm in 2022 we have divided up the land to include two freedom fields and a teaching field.

We now solely teach Agility and Hoopers classes, which are held outside all year round in the middle field of the 8 acre farm. We have a large car park to cater for everyone attending classes.

Throughout the year we have guest instructors who come and run a wide range of activities for you and your dog including Scent Training, Brain Training/Trick, Gundog, specialised Distance handling Hoopers and Agility workshops.

These workshops are only open to people who attend or previously attended classes with us.

Every Christmas & Easter we hold a Charity party, we raise as much money as we can for small independent dog charities which include –
Garbo’s GSD rescue
Broken Biscuits
Celia Cross Greyhound
Vets on the Streets.
And many more.

And finally as I’m so passionate about German Shepherds we close the whole farm down at least 4 times a year so all the Shepherds in the local Kennels waiting for their forever homes can come and have a run, sniff and play in the fields. If you can offer a home, volunteer or foster please look up your local rescue.

Who are we?

Celia Felstead

Celia is a qualified Obedience and Agility and Hoopers instructor. She gained a First with the BIPDT (British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers) in 2007. Celia studied Canine Psychology at Compass Education and Training, a world leading Institute and in addition to this qualification she is currently doing an accredited Advanced Canine Behaviour Diploma.

Celia regularly attends seminars, workshops and lectures with leading experts so that she is continually learning and rethinking how she teaches. She keeps track of the latest scientific findings and incorporates all of this into her training classes and 1-1’s.  Celia treats every dog as an individual, learning what motivates them and training through kind, reward-based methods.

Over the last 30 years Celia has had a number of rescue dogs and foster dogs in her home. She is involved with several dog re-homing charities and is aware that many rescue dogs are being returned to rescue centres through no fault of their own. With help and understanding a lot of these dogs can lead happy healthy balanced lives in their new homes.

Celia has adopted 7 German Shepherds and three rescue Terriers over the years.
She has taken four of her dogs through the Kennel Club Good citizens scheme but now concentrates on teaching her Shepherds Agility & Hoopers.

What our club members say about us

Veronica West

It’s a friendly and fun club to belong to. Stanley can’t wait for his Saturday agility sessions …. and everyone is so understanding when he has one of his ‘tunnel phobia’ moments. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

Theresa Cogbill

I am so glad to have been introduced to this wonderful club. They have helped me to give both myself and my deaf Doberman a great deal of fun and information on how to bring out the best in both of us. Candy loves the agility classes which gives her some much needed freedom off the lead.

Miriam

My dog Stanley has been going to Agility with Celia for a couple of years now. She is an amazing trainer, I found it hard never mind Stanley! He gets so excited and so much from Celia’s class on a Saturday morning. A lovely start to the weekend I would totally recommend her classes.
