The Dog & Handler Training Club
Established 2007
Rewards – We are a reward based training club. We teach you how to use a combination of treats, toys, touch and praise – so your dog learns in a calm, relaxed, kind and positive way.

The Dog & Handler Training Club
Kennel Club Status
The Dog and Handler Training Club was formed in 2007 solely as teaching the Kennel Club Good Citizen scheme. However over the years it has now grown to include many other activities Agility, Hoopers, Whistle workshops and so much more.
The majority of Obedience classes, Workshops and Seminars are held at The Scout Hut and grounds in Laleham, Surrey. There are great facilities there, so the classes are held inside and out – weather permitting, with a large grassed area and two car parks as well as the scout hut itself.
The Agility, Hoopers and Recall classes are held at the field in Egham, Surrey. The field is tucked away at the back of the nursery grounds with parking.
We are a Kennel Club listed status club that runs classes starting with the Good Citizen Puppy Foundation Scheme, moving on up to the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. The Beginner Obedience course follows our own syllabus giving a good foundation for those that would like to continue with training and achieve the KC Good Citizen Awards.
We offer a wide range of activities for you and your dog including Scent Workshops, Brain Training and Social walks. Twice a year we run a ‘Canine First Aid’ seminar, and The Dog’s Coat and Wellbeing seminar with guest speakers. We also have themed talks on Canine Body Language and how to interpret what they are telling you.
Please come and observe one of our classes or book in a taster session, however if you feel your dog won’t be able to cope in a class environment – please see our 1-1 sections.
Who are we?
Celia Felstead
Celia is a qualified Obedience and Agility and Hoopers instructor. She gained a First with the BIPDT (British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers) in 2007. Celia studied Canine Psychology at Compass Education and Training, a world leading Institute and in addition to this qualification she is currently doing an accredited Advanced Canine Behaviour Diploma.
Celia regularly attends seminars, workshops and lectures with leading experts so that she is continually learning and rethinking how she teaches. She keeps track of the latest scientific findings and incorporates all of this into her training classes and 1-1’s. Celia treats every dog as an individual, learning what motivates them and training through kind, reward-based methods.
Over the last 30 years Celia has had a number of rescue dogs and foster dogs in her home. She is involved with several dog re-homing charities and is aware that many rescue dogs are being returned to rescue centres through no fault of their own. With help and understanding a lot of these dogs can lead happy healthy balanced lives in their new homes.
Celia has had the pleasure of adopting six German Shepherds and three rescue Terriers. She has taken her last four dogs through the Kennel Club Good Citizen Award scheme and at present has two German Shepherds and one Terrier who she enjoys teaching Agility, Hoopers, Scent exercises and Obedience.
Julie Farrar
Julie has been with The Dog and Handler Club since it started back in 2007. She has been helping out at both the Obedience and Agility classes, and is always on hand for owners and their dogs when they need some extra help.
Julies first dog was a Rough Collie, and she then went on to owning Pyrenean Sheepdogs. At present she has two dogs, one of which is a Catalan Sheepdog. All her dogs have passed their Kennel Club Good Citizen awards up to Gold standard.
Julies first Pyrenean Sheepdog loved agility and they competed for many years before she retired her at around 9 years of age. Julie now competes with her present two dogs as well as attending our Hoopers classes.
Outside of classes Julie helps man the Pyrenean Sheepdog breed stand at Discover Dogs and has helped out on these stands for many years both at Crufts and the Excel Centre, London (formally held at Earls Court).
